Dear directors,
I need help from those of you involved in Ethnic Minority issues. We
are helping PACCOM with preparations for the VUFO-CEMA conference on
Monday (see email below). Our Ethnic Minorities Working Group is
preparing a presentation on joint INGO achievements and
recommendations, which will be delivered by Mr Hoang Van Tu, Country
Representative at Caritas Switzerland. At the same time PACCOM asked
me to prepare a short (3-minute) speech emphasising INGOs'
contributions and future commitments. Please take a moment of your
time or assign a key staff to answer the following questions by COB
tomorrow:
1. What is your total (estimated) USD figure, out of your annual
budget, spent for activities supporting Ethnic Minorities this year?
2. What are your (estimated) financial commitments in USD for
2015-2017 that will support Ethnic Minorities projects?
3. Please list provinces in which you implement projects supporting
Ethnic Minorities?
4. Please list sectors / types of projects by which you support Ethnic
Minorities?
5. Is there any message that you would like me to share concerning
Ethnic Minorities?
Kindly note that I will have 3 minutes and I will only use cumulative
figures to illustrate joint INGO efforts. I do not need exact numbers
— only your best estimates. The same applies to my key message to the
audience — it may include a few most significant issues concerning
Ethnic Minorities, which majority of you finds important.
Thank you in advance. Warm regards,
Marko

-------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
Viet Nam is home to 54 ethnic minority groups, most of which live in
remote rural or mountainous areas with a lot of disadvantages socially
and economically: high rate of poverty and illiteracy, underdeveloped
infrastructure, short life expectancy, nomad cultivation,
deforestation, etc…
In that context, the Prime Minister issued the National Program for
the Promotion of Foreign NGO assistance 2013-2017 which directed
priorities to poor and mountainous and ethnic minority populated
areas; and the master plan for strengthening international cooperation
in promoting assistance for socio-economic development in ethnic
populated areas.
In an effort to attract resources to help ethnic groups escape poverty
and improve their living conditions, VUFO is organizing, in
coordination with the Committee for Ethnic Minorities (CEMA), a
Conference on promoting investment and assistance for socio-economic
development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas at VUFO office on
Dec 8th, 2014. This conference will be chaired by a Deputy Prime
Minister and leaders of VUFO and CEMA. (please see that attached
letter for more details).
Given the importance of the Conference, you are kindly requested to
participate and share ideas and initiatives to help ease the
difficulties for these special population groups of Viet Nam.
Look forward to welcoming you at the event.
Sincerely,
---
